Eggplant caviar, a simple and delicious delight
As an appetizer, for an aperitif, or as a sauce to accompany your favorite dishes, eggplant caviar adds an exquisite flavor to your meals. Our artisanal preparation, made with quality ingredients, is a true concentrate of gourmet deliciousness with a taste of sunshine.
Eggplant caviar, a Mediterranean recipe
Eggplant puree or caviar is a preparation found throughout the Mediterranean basin. In the south of France, it is also called "merenjainade".
The eggplant is a fruit-vegetable originating from Asia, first domesticated in India, China, and Indonesia. It was introduced to the Mediterranean by the Arabs and was a highly prized vegetable in Andalusia during the Middle Ages. While eggplant has been commonly consumed in the South of France for centuries, its popularity in the North of France is more recent. It only arrived in Parisian markets in the 19th century, brought back from Provence by the greengrocer, M. Découflé.
There are also several variations of eggplant caviar in different Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries, such as Lebanese moutabal, Turkish patlican salatasi, or Jordanian baba ganoush. These recipes are prepared using the same basic ingredients.
What are the ingredients of eggplant caviar?
The classic recipe contains eggplant puree, garlic, olive oil, and seasonings. These elements give the preparation a delicious sunny taste reminiscent of the South, mountains, and sea.
Our eggplant caviar respects this traditional recipe, using natural ingredients. Indeed, we are committed to providing quality products in our grocery store. The artisans use fresh vegetables carefully selected from producers. The caviar contains no chemical additives, no flavor enhancers, and no food colorings. You are therefore assured of enjoying a product that is both healthy and delicious, reflecting the beautiful region of Ardèche.
How to enjoy eggplant caviar?
It's an aperitif classic. You can serve it as a dip with raw vegetables, or to accompany crackers. It is also excellent on toast on wholemeal bread or grilled toast.
Eggplant caviar makes a very good filling for appetizers: in puff pastry, tortillas, or blinis. It will be your secret ally for a successful cocktail.
As a starter, caviar can be served with salad, salmon, or a more original cold starter such as a filled cheesecake.
If you want to offer the sauce with a main course, it will be perfect with fish. Offer it to your guests when you cook monkfish or salmon; they will be delighted. And don't forget when you go on a picnic or if you take your lunch with you: this sauce will bring an unprecedented flavor to your sandwiches and cold dishes.
Eggplant caviar is a vegan preparation, with no animal products. It is also an excellent gift for your friends who enjoy cruelty-free cuisine. Because our shop is not just for cold cuts, everyone can find something they like there!
