The first candied chestnut factory in France was established in Ardèche at the end of the 19th century. Today, candied chestnuts remain an emblematic product of the region, which is home to the main French confectioneries specializing in chestnuts. The SABATON company, founded in 1907 and established in Aubenas, is one of these historic players.
A manufacturing process that respects tradition:
With several generations having succeeded one another to perpetuate this gourmet tradition over the decades, the Sabaton house has perfectly mastered the art of candied chestnuts.
The chestnuts are candied in a sugar syrup infused with vanilla extract and covered with a thin layer of icing to give them a shiny appearance.
Vanilla adds a gourmet fragrance that marries wonderfully with the taste of chestnuts. Prepared in this way, they become a real royal treat that delights young and old alike, just like in the time of Louis XIV. At that time, chestnuts were considered a poor man's food, but thanks to the delicate preparation of François Pierre de La Varenne, the fruit managed to be appreciated in the King's court. And even today, with the traditional recipe inherited from the Ardèche great-grandparents, Maison Sabaton offers gourmets exceptional quality candied chestnuts with an authentic flavor.

How to enjoy candied chestnuts?
You can enjoy them as a treat, as a dessert or even with a drink for a real moment of pleasure.
It is recommended to store chestnuts in a cool, dry place, between 10° and 15°C. You can prepare the accompaniment you prefer: champagne, cognac or armagnac.
When ready to eat, take a chestnut and gently open it in two with your fingers. Smell the aroma and enjoy the sight of the creamy syrup trapped inside. Bring the fruit to your mouth and savor the exquisite sweetness and delicacy of the chestnut flesh: a real feast for the palate!
