Saucisson boxes: our artisanal Ardèche gift boxes, which one to choose?

Box saucissons : nos coffrets artisanaux d'Ardèche, laquelle choisir ?

Whether you want a handsome spread for the aperitif, a gift that hits the mark or simply a little stash of treats to keep you going, a saucisson box is the answer. Our boxes bring together artisanal dry-cured saucissons made in the Ardèche, in selections designed for every kind of food lover: the curious, the purist, the aperitif fan… and even the anti-waste enthusiast.

Short answer: A saucisson box is a ready-made assortment of artisanal dry-cured saucissons, ready to enjoy or to give. At La Boutique des Saucissons, there is no subscription: the Discovery Box to get started, the 10-flavour Flavoured Box for the curious, the Saucisson Passion Box (≈ 3 kg) for big gatherings, and the Christmas Gourmet Box for the festive season.

What is a saucisson box?

A saucisson box is a gift box that brings together several dry-cured saucissons, and sometimes other regional produce, chosen to complement one another. The idea is simple: we spare you the headache of choosing, and you receive a balanced assortment, ready to slice.

Unlike many boxes on the market, ours require no subscription. You pick the one you like, whenever suits you, and that is it. No commitment, no cancellation to remember: just saucisson.

What is in an artisanal saucisson box?

An artisanal saucisson box contains dry-cured saucissons made to different recipes: a pure pork one as the foundation, flavoured saucissons (walnut, hazelnut, Beaufort, goat's cheese, herbes de Provence…) and, depending on the box, Ardèche PGI specialities, mini saucissons or accompaniments such as a terrine or a craft beer.

All our saucissons share the same foundations:

  • French pork, from pigs born and raised in France;
  • a coarsely minced mixture, with around 80 % lean meat;
  • a natural casing, tied by hand;
  • no colourings;
  • slow drying in ambient air, in the climate of the southern Ardèche.

We never rush our saucissons: we give them time to develop their flavour and their bloom, the fine grey-green coating that is the hallmark of natural maturing.

Did you know? The "mêlée" is what charcutiers call the mixture of minced meat, fat and seasoning that is then stuffed into the casing. It is the mêlée that gives each saucisson its personality.

Which saucisson box should you choose? Our selections

The right saucisson box depends on the occasion and on who will be enjoying it. Here are our current saucisson boxes, from the simplest to the most generous.

The Discovery Box: a first step without getting it wrong

The Discovery Box brings together 5 dry-cured saucissons that give a true idea of the taste of an artisanal Ardèche saucisson: a tied pure pork saucisson, an Ardèche PGI dry sausage, a saucisson with Beaufort, a saucisson with hazelnuts and a saucisson with walnuts. Walnuts and hazelnuts happen to be local fruits. It is the ideal box for newcomers… and for anyone who wants to win a friend over.

The Flavoured Boxes: for the curious in search of new flavours

The 10-flavour Flavoured Box is a real tour de France of saucisson in around 1.7 kg: pure pork, smoked, herbes de Provence, pepper, Beaufort, walnut, hazelnut, Roquefort, goat's cheese and wild boar. Everyone finds their favourite slice, and lively debates around the board are guaranteed.

Fancy a more compact version? The 5-flavour Flavoured Box brings together a plain pure pork saucisson, one with Beaufort PDO, one with hazelnuts, one pork and wild boar and one smoked.

The Saucisson Passion Box: 3 kg for true enthusiasts

The Saucisson Passion Box is our most generous box: around 3 kg and 10 artisanal charcuterie products. Inside you will find a large tied Ardèche saucisson, an Ardèche PGI dry-cured saucisson, a saucisson with walnuts, a saucisson with goat's cheese, a Beaufort fuet, a Corsican lonzu, a smoked pure pork Corsican saucisson, a hot chorizo, Minis Crocs with hazelnuts and pure pork Grignottes. From the Ardèche to Corsica by way of Spain: enough to feed a big table without anyone going hungry.

The Aperitif Box for 2 and the Aperitif Kit: the aperitif, ready to go

No time to go shopping? The Aperitif Box for 2 brings together saucissons, a country pâté, savoury aperitif biscuits and craft beer. All that is missing is some good fresh bread. The Aperitif Kit contains 2 saucissons (Beaufort and hazelnut), a country terrine, a green tapenade and an Ardèche craft blonde beer. Two boxes that are perfect for an aperitif for two or with friends.

The Saucisson Cigar Gift Box: the small gift that makes an impression

The Saucisson Cigar Gift Box presents 5 mini saucissons in a box reminiscent of a cigar case: pure pork, Cantal, walnut, herbes de Provence and Beaufort. You savour the aroma like a fine Havana, then cut them into thin rounds. An original host gift at a small price.

The Anti-Waste Boxes: 2 kg of imperfect saucissons

An imperfect saucisson is a perfectly good saucisson, set aside from regular sale for a simple matter of appearance or size: a little crooked, too small, an uneven bloom… Around 3 % of our production is affected. Rather than leave them aside, since 2022 we have offered them in the Anti-Waste Saucisson Box and the Anti-Waste Mini Saucisson Box: around 2 kg each, at least 33 % cheaper, with flavours that vary according to production. The taste stays exactly the same. Perfect for the aperitif, but also in cooking: omelette, pasta in a creamy sauce, quiche… Find the whole range in our imperfect saucisson collection.

The LBDS tip: take your saucissons out half an hour before serving and slice them thinly, at an angle, with a sharp knife. Once cut, a dry-cured saucisson keeps wrapped in a clean cloth, in a cool, dry place, below 18 °C. All our advice is in our article on how to store dry-cured saucisson.

Christmas boxes: our gourmet gift sets for the festive season

For Christmas, two gourmet gift sets pair our saucissons with festive specialities: the Christmas Gourmet Box and the Christmas Gourmet Hamper. They come ready-made in festive packaging, ready to slip under the tree.

  • The Christmas Gourmet Box (about 1.4 kg): an Ardèche PGI dry-cured saucisson, a dry-cured saucisson with walnuts, truffle Grignottes, a whole duck foie gras, a tube of Maison Imbert chestnut cream and a bar of soft nougat.
  • The Christmas Gourmet Hamper (about 2.8 kg): an Ardèche PGI dry-cured saucisson, an Ardèche PGI straight dry sausage, truffle Grignottes, a South-West foie gras, a Maison Imbert chestnut cream, "Le Petit Ardéchois" nougats and a bottle of red Côtes du Rhône.

Neither gift set is on pre-order: order before 9 am and they ship the same day, arriving within 2 to 3 working days. Savoury, sweet and festive: the whole Christmas Eve fits in one box. And to keep food lovers patient from 1 December, think of the saucisson Advent calendar. Find the full selection in our gourmet Christmas gift boxes and more ideas in our gourmet Christmas gift ideas.

How should you enjoy and serve your saucisson box?

A saucisson box is best enjoyed at aperitif time, on a wooden board, in thin slices. Start with the mildest flavours (pure pork, walnut, hazelnut) before moving on to the boldest (smoked, hot chorizo, Roquefort). Add some country bread, a few gherkins, a characterful cheese and a glass of Côtes du Rhône or a craft beer: the evening is off to a fine start. To go further, here is how to put together a handsome charcuterie board, and our article on the aperitif box and its Ardèche delicacies.

And let us not forget that saucisson is for cooking too: diced in a savoury loaf, an omelette or a lentil salad, it brings character to your everyday dishes.

Conclusion

Discovery, flavoured, generous, anti-waste or festive: there is bound to be a saucisson box made for you, or for the person you want to treat. No subscription and no fuss: all that is left is to choose… and get the knife out. Discover all our artisanal saucisson boxes.
